Zihan's Big (Pay)Day

Saturday 20th October 2007

The day is finally here.

The day Zihan has been waiting for anxiously. What day is it? Her engagement? Nolah...member got no boyfriend (as far as I know....better not ah!)and she's only 14 can? Her exam results day? No....that's over and she did rather well, thank God! The day she got tickets to the Linkin Park concert in November? Eh..that's me, not her. Then what day is it today ah?

Hold yer horses, today is her Jalan Raya Bersama Kengkawan Day!

Yeah, she was planning today like a general plans his battles or like a businessman plans his acquisitions. Calls, text messages, distance calculations, rented transport suggestions (akhirnya naik public transport jugaaak!) and schedule-synchronizing (which I imagine shouldn't be that hard coz all of her friends mainly have one thing on their respective agendas -jalan raya collection!). I swear I saw a flow chart starting from whose house first to whose house next to whose house last. If only they plan their study time with such intricacy, Bedok Green Secondary School will have fourteen Malay students scoring a neat single-digit for their O'levels in 2009! Oh yes, fourteen. That's how many of them will be out and about in their best Raya garb today. Fourteen fourteen-year-olds. That's a LOT of teenage hormones in one kain songket.

*shakes head*

Yeah....so important is today that morning morning already come knocking on my door to ask me to do her hair. With my eyes half-glued shut with gook and my mouth rancid with morning breath, I primped and primed her to Raya perfection.

Well, almost.

Did her hair, replaced her tak-match-baju dangly earrings with one of my favourite white danglies (last year's birthday present from mah Nazreen!) and loaned her one of my favourites, my trusty old five-way LV pochette twin. With a little lip-gloss and a bit o'blusher, she's good to go.

Selamat Hari Raya Collection!

PS: Come to think of it, with the money a kid can make just for showing up at a few relatives' houses, it is like a business of sorts! Therefore, careful planning should be in order!
